About the job

As a Drilling Engineer with Ingentia Energies Limited, you will assist in the planning, design, and execution of drilling operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective well delivery. The role involves providing technical support, monitoring drilling activities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize performance and minimize risks.

Location: Lagos

Key Responsibilities:

1. Well Planning & Design:

  • Assist in preparing well designs, drilling programs, and cost estimates.
  • Develop drilling plans that consider wellbore stability, drilling fluid requirements, and overall drilling efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Senior Drilling Engineer, Geologists and Reservoir engineers to understand subsurface conditions and design drilling programs accordingly.
  • Support casing and cementing design calculations.
  • Perform offset well analysis and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards in well design.
  • Provide sound drilling engineering methods and procedures to be used on assigned drilling problems.
  • Execute and accomplish assignments and studies in areas outlined in the scope, assuring conformance to overall objectives of all phases of drilling operations in areas including drilling penetration rate optimization, new drilling technology, and drilling studies.

2. Drilling Operations Support:

Monitor daily drilling operations and provide technical support.

  • Analyze drilling data and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Assist in troubleshooting operational challenges, including stuck pipe, loss circulation, and well control issues.
  • Collaborate with drilling contractors and service providers to ensure operational efficiency.

3. Performance Optimization:

  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for drilling efficiency.
  • Participate in post-well reviews and lessons-learned sessions.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies and best practices.

4. Supervision and Monitoring:

Support Senior Drilling Engineer to oversee drilling operations on-site, ensuring adherence to the drilling plan and safety protocols.

  • Deliver technical support for many types of drilling wells designed to be executed.
  • Analyze advanced drilling data and the performance of new or existing drilling techniques to determine a need for or benefit from studies, recommendations, and/or modifications with respect to unit costs, and operating efficiency consistent with established operations.
  • Monitor drilling parameters, wellbore conditions, and equipment performance in real-time.

5. Equipment and Material Selection:

Select appropriate drilling equipment, tools, and materials for each drilling project.

  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of necessary equipment and materials, also ensure that reliable rented tools are mobilized for operations.
  • Provide sound drilling engineering methods and procedures to be used on assigned drilling problems.

6. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):

Ensure adherence to HSE policies and procedures during drilling operations.

  • Assist in conducting safety drills and audits on-site.
  • Implement and enforce safety procedures to ensure a secure working environment for the drilling team.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans for potential drilling hazards.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses. 

7. Reporting & Documentation:

  • Review daily drilling reports and prepare technical summaries.
  • Maintain accurate records of drilling operations, including well logs and reports.
  • Assist in preparing end-of-well reports and documentation.

8. Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in well control (e.g., IWCF or IADC Well Control) are an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in drilling operations, preferably in the oil and gas industry.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic understanding of drilling engineering principles and well construction.
  • Familiarity with drilling software (e.g. Landmark, Well Plan, or Drill bench) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of wellbore hydraulics, torque and drag analysis, and casing design.
  • Knowledge of drilling technologies, equipment, and industry best practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

9. Experience:

  • Minimum 0f 3 years of experience in drilling operations or related fieldwork.
  • Internship or prior exposure to drilling engineering is beneficial.

10. Work Environment:

  • Office-based with field assignments (rig site visits).
  • Must be willing to work in remote locations and rotational schedules as required.
