The Centre For Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID) calls for submission of compelling story pitches on freedom of expression and press, and access to information.
The winning story ideas will dive into the evolving Nigerian media landscape at local and regional level and highlight how freedom of expression and press, and access to information are impacted by numerous challenges posing a significant threat to the safety of journalists, their families and media sustainability.
Press Freedom, Freedom of Information & Freedom of Expression
The Centre For Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID) calls for submission of compelling story pitches of up to Five hundred thousand (N500,000) naira on freedom of expression and press, and access to information.
We welcome pitches of story ideas including (but not limited to):
Censorship & Government Crackdowns:
- Stories of journalists, media professionals and media organizations facing suppression.
- Digital and Cyber Attacks: How Individuals, governments agencies and corporations are using digital tools and mechanisms to monitor, harass, and force journalists into suppression.
- Laws & Policies: How legislation impacts press freedom and hinders access to information.
- Threats to Journalists: Physical Attacks, Unlawful arrest, unlawful imprisonment/detention, or intimidation faced by reporters, media professionals and newsrooms including threats that are peculiar to female journalists.
- Solution Journalism: Stories of individuals or groups using innovative ideas to defend freedom of speech, freedom of information and press freedom.
- Press Freedom in Conflict and Crisis Zones: Experiences of journalists covering areas experiencing war, political turmoil, and humanitarian crises.
